TNT Spirit Other

Peewee AA: Read about their Success

TNT Major Peewee AA’s Advance to OMHA Quarter Finals with Game 7 Victory!

After defeating the Georgina Blaze in the first round 3 games to 1, TNT would be in tough in the second round against Newmarket who had received a first round bye after finishing first during the regular season. The best of 5 or first to 6 points series will arguably go down as one of the best minor hockey playoffs of all time!

Game 1 took place on January 27th in Newmarket at Ray Twinney Arena. TNT had just returned from Port Huron Michigan and the International Silver Stick, and unfortunately came out of the gate flat. Newmarket would win game 1 in convincing fashion, beating the Tornados 3-0.

Game 2 was played on Saturday January 30th in Alliston at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre. TNT realized that the second game was a must win proposition! The team responded well by defeating Newmarket 1-0 in a very hard fought game.

Game 3 returned to Newmarket on Wednesday February 3rd. In carbon copy fashion, the Redmen defeated TNT 3-0 to take a 2 games to 1 series lead. The scene would shift back to Alliston on February 6th.

Game 4 included a little bit of everything. TNT jumped out in front of the Redmen 2-0. After a few controversial penalties and a few missed penalties, tensions within the rink began to climb quickly! The Redmen would strike for a goal in the second period to make the score 2-1. Late in the 3rd period, Newmarket tied the score at 2. The game would go to a 10 minute overtime, but would not find a winner and each team would settle for a point. The series was now 5 points to 3 in favour of Newmarket.

Game 5 returned to Newmarket on Sunday February 7th. A Newmarket win or tie would spell the end for the Tornados. With that thought in mind, TNT dominated play throughout the game and handed the Redmen a 3-0 loss. Each team now had 5 points each and game 6 would return to Alliston on Monday.

Game 6 would be a game that those in attendance will not soon forget! As was the case in Game 4, TNT would jump out in front by a score of 2-0. The Redmen would answer with 2 goals of their own to tie the score at the end of 3 periods. The two teams would go on to battle through 3 overtime periods and horrible ice conditions without a flood, trying to find a winner!  When the buzzer went after the third overtime frame, the score remained 2-2. The OMHA representative on hand would declare that the game would end as a tie, and the two teams would need to play a 7th and deciding game on Tuesday back in Newmarket!

Game 7 to nobody’s surprise would go on to put the exclamation mark on what was one of the most gruelling series of this year’s OMHA playoffs! TNT took a 1-0 lead deep into the 3rd period. With just over a minute left on the clock, and the Redmen goalie heading to the bench for a sixth attacker, the Redmen would score a goal to tie the game, and yet again the two teams would head to overtime! After a few close calls around the TNT net, the Tornados would bring this epic battle to a close with a goal late in the first overtime frame! TNT had secured a spot in the OMHA Quarter Finals!

TNT Major Peewee AA’s Advance to OMHA Semi Finals!

With little time to catch their breath, the TNT Major Peewee AA’s, sponsored by Pampered Pet Lodge would now go to battle the Aurora Tigers who defeated Richmond Hill to advance to the quarters.

Game 1 took place in Aurora on Saturday February 13th. Aurora would strike first to go up 1-0, only to see TNT answer back with a goal to tie the game 1-1. The two teams would trade chances and power plays, but the score would remain tied after regulation. TNT was no stranger to overtime, and wasted no time bringing game 1 to a close! As soon as the puck was dropped, TNT stormed into the Aurora zone and in less then 10 seconds the Tornados scored to end the game! Make the final TNT 2 Aurora 1.

Game 2 returned to Alliston on Valentine’s Day, and the TNT faithful would not be disappointed. The Tornados picked up from where they left off in game 1 taking the play to the Tigers throughout the game! It wasn’t until late in the 3rd period that TNT scored to go up 1-0. With under a minute to go and the goalie out, TNT would score an empty net goal to make the final TNT 2 Aurora 0.

Game 3 took place on February 16th in Aurora. As TNT had expected, the Tigers would not go away without a fight, and when the dust had settled, Aurora had defeated the Tornados 4-1. TNT would return home for game 4 and a chance to end the series!

Game 4 was set for Thursday February 18th in Alliston at 8:30. The first period saw no scoring. TNT got on the board in the second period to go up 1-0 at the end of 2. The Tigers responded quickly in the 3rd, with a goal in the first minute to tie the game at 1. It wasn’t until late in the 3rd period that TNT would strike again to go up 2-1. The stage was set for the goalie to be pulled in favour of a sixth attacker. With a minute left on the clock, TNT kept the Tigers out of their zone and hel on for the 2-1 win. The Major Peewee AA’s had won the series 3 games to 1 and would now represent the York Simcoe Loop by advancing to the OMHA semi final!

The next series schedule and opponent is yet to be determined. TNT will now wait to play the winner of the Lakeshore Loop which is being played between Oshawa and Kingston and is currently tied at one game apiece. The semi final series will start at some point next week, and the deadline to complete the series is March 7th. Congratulations go out to the Major Peewee AA’s and Good Luck in the Semi Finals!
